Friedrich Wilhelm "Fritz" Strassmann (German: Straßmann) was a German chemist who,
with Otto Hahn in early 1939, identified barium in the residue after bombarding uranium with neutrons,
results which, when confirmed, demonstrated the previously unknown phenomenon of nuclear fission.
