Barbara McClintock    


Barbara McClintock was an American scientist and cytogeneticist.
She conducted maize plant research that led to her discovery of genetic transposition
- the movement of genetic materialwithin and between chromosomes.
In 1983 she was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine,
the first woman to win that prize unshared.
